As a fan of the Gears of War story overall, 3 ties many pieces together and really shows fans of the books a good deal of love. (i.e. I'm the only one I know that was giddy when I heard from Trescu near the end. Can't imagine a game-only fan would understand the nod.) My only qualm is characters adhere more to the game portrayal than that of the books -- like how Marcus's almost-philosophical man-of-few-words persona in books is replaced mostly by bravado.

Gameplay-wise, it shares the quality of its predecessors and, as usual, amps up the flare, style and satisfaction garnered from playing. As for multiplayer, I started playing only Horde in 2 and I've been hooked ever since; adding buildings just made it so much more addictive.
