After watching X2 and First Class again recently, I feel certain that this is the best film we have gotten yet in the franchise. There is some missed potential, mostly with the future Sentinel storyline feeling like an afterthought, but it still managed to meet my expectations and even surpass them in some ways. The ending of First Class really resonated with me emotionally, and this film manages to expand and really capitalize on those elements for some surprisingly poignant moments. While I think the X-Men films have always been well cast, I love McAvoy, Fassbender and Lawrence in the iconic roles, and throwing Hugh Jackman into the mix makes for some great chemistry, and that's to say nothing of the addition of Evan Peters as Quicksilver. In the end I consider this one of the finest comic book adaptations out there, and despite some of the mediocre films of the last few years, I am once again excited for the future of the franchise even after 14 years and 7 films.
