I've never played something like FIFA so I can't say how this game competes with that series but I bet it is entirely different because the rules of soccer have been modified: there is no referee and you can freely foul your enemies and throw items at them. The control scheme is easy and the graphics are great, featuring many different animations of Mario characteres. There are many different game modes like "Grudge Match", "Cup Battle", "Super Cup Battle" and even a tournament mode! This game is way better than the successor "Mario Strikers Charged" because it has a well-balanced difficulty and - even though the rules have been altered - you actually play soccer. Mario Smash Football is very fun in multiplayer matches.
