It took them 20 years to get it right, but here is a version of FF II finally gets the awkward leveling system to be not that difficult to work with. However, what I really like about this game is how atmospheric this game is for a NES RPG, from the melancholy music to the mysterious aurora of the Emperor to the story's downward spiral (lots of death and destruction). Sure it's simple by modern standards but I found it surprisingly affecting.
