Over a decade later this is still a divisive game amongst RPG fans. Some hate it simply because it isn't Chrono Trigger 2, while others like myself love it for the very same reason. Cross is a more experimental game, tinkering with genre standards like the leveling up system to mixed results, and large cast results in disappointing lack of depth to many of the characters. That said while Trigger may be a more straightforward RPG Cross has a more thoughtful, philosophical approach to its story that I love and find more interesting than its predecessor. Great music and aesthetics make this "sequel" a worthy sucessor to Trigger nonetheless, though it won't have the wide appeal the first game had.
