Again what's the difference between Rock and Rock n' Roll? I always thought Rock was just short for Rock n' Roll.

Editing … Rock is a derivative of Rock 'n' Roll. Rock 'n' Roll can be characterised mainly by 1950s artist such as Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry - technically there's a lot of influence from Blues, with similar chord progression and lyrical structure. Rock on the other hand refers to artists from 1960s to now such as The Beatles and Led Zeppelin - technically it is extremely varied, but bands frequently have a guitar-keyboards-drummer-vocalist lineup, often with instrumental solos, and a 4/4 time (with emphasis on beats 2 and 4). This all being said, they are frequently used interchangeably, and are both some of the loosest restrictions in all of music!
