So it seems the Harvest Moon name may be in limbo for the foreseeable future. As it turns out, Natsume, the longtime US publisher of the series, owns the name, and XSEED/Marvelous can't use it now that they took over publishing duties. This means that in theory, Natsume could go on to develop/contract more Harvest Moon games without involvement of Marvelous. Of course, this sort of thing happens quite a bit (Demon's Souls/Dark Souls immediately comes to mind), but I can't think of another situation quite like this, as the series' Japanese name, Bokujou Monogatari, is unaffected. In any case, this "Story of Seasons" game is the latest entry in the series, which sounds generic enough that they might intend for it to become the new name of the franchise.
