Mario Kart 64 features the best race tracks out of all Mario Kart games. It also has the greatest soundtrack of all Mario Kart games. The control scheme is easy as always so everyone can join in the fun. Instead of using clunky 3D models Nintendo used sprites for the characters which was a great decision in my opinion. They seamlessly fit into this game. Even though most people criticize the rubber band AI I didn't find it that bad. It is at least better than being spammed with items like in Mario Kart Wii. This game is really fun in multiplayer and outshines most other Mario Kart games. I cannot name a single race track that I didn't like. I skipped the N64 era but it would be foolish to skip this great Mario Kart title.
