While it may not live up to the high standards of the original, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is an excellent game in its own right. It's one of the few video games that offers so much variety in gameplay; colleges should probably teach students how to design games with SMG2 as their go-to example. Plus less stars per stage meant more stages which led to more creativity packed into each consecutive stage. While there are many standouts, my personal favorite galaxy is Throwback, a nice nostalgic visit to 64's castle in the sky. With outstanding gameplay, amazing visuals, a great soundtrack, and a incredible variety, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the first direct sequel to a core 3D Mario console title, and one of the greatest Mario games of all time.
