I'm not a strategy guy. Really. I don't play them because I can't focus on a billion things at one time (I'm looking at you, Starcraft...). UNTIL I stumbled upon the absolute gem that is Warcraft III. Everything about WCIII was greenhorn-friendly, from the interface to the commands. Blizzard has been known for polishing its games, and WCIII is no exception. The plot is pretty interesting, the graphics are nice and colorful, and the micro-managing has been zoomed out for a more streamlined experience. Personally, I'd go for Warcraft III as opposed to Starcraft any day. Suck it, Koreans... okay, not really.
