Considering hacking my New 3DS XL. If I do I'd have hacked three different handhelds (PSP, Vita, 3DS) and that would be impressive! All that would be left after that is the Switch Lite, lol.

Just one problem though, I don't know where to get 3DS games? And if I don't know that then it kind of defeats the point..

Editing … I finally bought a couple MicroSDs (and SD2Vita) for my New 3DS XL and PS Vita. When I get around to hacking them, I'll let you know where I'm finding games.

Editing … You hacked your Switch right? I was trying to find out if there are any tweaks available that fixes the Switch's problems. I lucked out with the Vita- there are plugins for lowering the brightness (PSP also has one for this) and for removing the lock screen, which are exactly what I wanted. I hear there's even a color saturation mod for the slim model. (Although this was Sony's doing, the mod merely unhides it) I'm not confident about the Switch though because my demands seem to be specific to me. (Oh, come to think of it, I should start with more common wants like button remapping for games. If there is no plugin for that, it's safe to say there won't be one for the other things I want.) But another concern is my save file. My Pokemon save is locked to the system so I wouldn't want to do anything to the system that might compromise my ability to export it later.

Editing … Maybe I buy a v1 Switch and hack that assuming those are easier to hack. Then I could buy third party joycons that suck less which would at least make the Switch somewhat better.

Editing … I think launch Switches are the *only* hackable Switches. You want one with a serial number indicating it's unpatched (hardware patch, not software patch) https://suchmememanyskill.github.io/guides/switchserials/

Editing … Ok i just asked on a forum and a user points out that none of the things I want are possible on a hacked Switch. That's that I guess. No need to waste my time on it. Maybe I'll buy myself a steam deck instead.

Editing … Pretty much every download for a modded 3DS is available as a QR code. It's really sick. Homebrew tools and custom themes.

Editing … I just hope you can close the 3DS and finish the download in sleep mode after doing the QR thing. Vita doesn't need a QR code but to download PSP games or homebrew the system has to be awake the entire time and you cannot do anything else on it during that time. So for some things it makes more sense to transfer manually via cable, sadly.

Editing … I tested closing my 3DS while installing CTGP-7 (modded Mario Kart 7), it made the download fail. But whereas the Vita was probably trying to fall asleep on its own while downloading, that's probably not an issue with the 3DS, so you can just put it aside and ignore it during downloads

Editing … Sorry, no, thats honestly kind of shit. And the fact you needed a QR code to begin with makes it doubly egregious. It sounds like it would be simpler to just transfer using usb and at least that way you can fill up the 3DS with everything at once. (This is assuming you can do this without having to remove the sd card from the 3ds. Because if you do, holy shit.)

Editing … You have to remove the SD from the 3DS. You're really blowing all of this out of proportion though. You're just gonna have to deviate from your idealized game installation method and instead use a different extremely easy and convenient method.

Editing … I found it completely intolerable on Vita. My instinct is always to sleep the screen whenever I put it down, and it takes me a tremendous amount of discipline to do otherwise, and the system might sleep on its own anyway so I have the additional step of turning that off. Granted I don't have to worry about 3DS sleeping on its own, but you still have to leave it open clam which is kind of freaking stupid. (2DS sounds better for this) Also, while downloading DLC for Vita games I'd usually just keep browsing PKGj while the download finishes. It's inane to say you can't do anything else while waiting. So like, just yeet the system, screen still on and everything, and find something else to do in the meantime. Make a sandwich. Whatever. Watch a movie. Then check back on the 3DS and see if it didn't crash mid download or whatever. Then do it all over again for the next thing you want to download. Then again. In a few weeks, you'll have everything you need! Yay!

Editing … I shouldn't have to point out that the New 3DS XL requires disassembly to get to the memory card. *sigh* But that's ok, I didn't really want to do this anyway. I had no intention of actually using the system, the hacking idea was mostly just to see if I could. I'm scattered enough as it is across PSP, VIta, 3DS, Switch, and phones. Honestly I'm just trying to declutter. No need to burden myself with extra steps.

Editing … You can browse first and then queue up several downloads at a time, and you're kinda just making up steps by saying it might crash. That's unlikely. The worst part really is getting to the MicroSD, which just requires loosening two screws. You're weird, Rockshard.

Editing … That sounds awful. Queing up multiple downloads just increases the chances of something going wrong or you wanting to back out. I don't even move more than one psp game at a time over a cable because when I decide to do it all at once it be like "3 hours remaining" and I'm like "whoa whoa hold up a second."

Editing … 'you're kinda just making up steps by saying it might crash.' This right after you pointed out that Vita will screen timeout itself mid download, instant death. Also, picture this. I start a download and halfway through it suddenly goes to 0kb/s. I can't cancel or exit. Did wifi go down? Don't think so. My only recourse is to force shutdown the console or to wait and see.

Editing … 3DS won't enter sleep on its own, you said so yourself. I dunno why you're worried that a download will suddenly halt to 0kb/s, or that you wouldn't be able to cancel or exit. I think you're projecting the problems of one console onto another.

I should try it! https://m.youtube.com/shorts/r-G9ob28tkg edit: the system is very nice btw. It's way better than the normal sized DSi.
