The level design is really not complementary with the gameplay/mechanics.
Tedious life bar combined with timer and amo pickup.
Long timer means that you start again fucker when you fail, loosing up to sixteen minutes.
Exits to the levels through which you can be dragged by cars, making you start again sucker.
Ennemis that appear as you progress, practically locking you out of some objectives if you do not know the proper order you should be completing them in.
Levels that can't be finished with some characters because of their stats, but it won't tell you that.
No restart button during the long races, you wait or you go through multiple load screens.
Absolutely no defense against ennemis that plow you as if you were a running back (had to look it up).
Floaty, unresponsive controls that make it very hard to land where intended.

Makes it one of the most frustrating and punishing game I ever played.
    Still.
There is something to it that makes me like it, even if it's mostly grating.
And it's fairly short, less five hours even if you suck at it.

Editing … Yeah, I honestly just played it for the music? I mean, that's not the best reason to play such a brutal game, but that's how I got through it. And I still only remember this game for the music, because hell yeah, JET SET RADIOOOOOOOO (Sorry, I got too excited again) https://youtu.be/A9WqF5cyagY?si=hXUyHp8C9RkUs5aN

Editing … That's why I like future so much. It's the music but also with fluid gameplay. I sometimes go back to it because there is no other game out there that has the same flow of motion. It just feels right.

Editing … That song is great by the way. I should download the soundtrack again. I don't know where I left it.

Editing … Yeah, I definitely wasn't ready for the Future. I think I might've rented that game and my mind a-sploded. I eventually grew out of that high in the next console generation, but I still remember JSRF because the graphics, sound and controls had so much ridiculously cool style.

Editing … And then Persona 3 saved my life or something. I dunno, all the best PS2 games and Halo came out at that time, so they kept me pretty busy. I was jealous of everyone who owned Halo. And then I moved to a dorm and Halo 3 was a way of life.

Editing … I wish I could have gotten into halo. People seem to have a lot of fun with the first 3 games. I guess I just never gravitated towards shooters but the world of halo seems more lush and fun than serious fps games about war. I was always on the edge of trying it.

Editing … It was a good time in gaming. There was just enough power to do cool things and not enough power to worry about silly things like pore textures. Perfect recipe.
