My brain hurts. Truly one of the biggest mindfucks I've ever experienced in all of fiction.

Neither the visual novel nor the pseudo-RTS gameplay elements are what I tend to look for in games, but both are executed well enough that along with the sublime story, characters and art style I was hooked. A sequel would feel forced, but after spending so many hours with these characters I would love to one day see them in a crossover fighting game or something. The intertwining narrative is quite unlike anything I've experienced before, and it's funny to think something so ambitious came out of what was originally pitched as a toy line.

And the tactical RPG gameplay of Vanillaware's next game, Unicorn Overlord, looks much more in line with my tastes, so I look forward to that. A shame that their games are never ported to PC.

Editing … Oh I remember seeing that game. I was a little put off by the character designs though but I thought it seemed kind of interesting.

Editing … Yeah, it's definitely trippy. Reminds me of point-and-click adventures, but with a lot more narratives that somehow connect together. And...wait, this was pitched as a toy line? I...kinda want those toys now...

Editing … Also, that ending really threw me for a loop. I mean, we did start in Tokyo...Sort of...And now I need to play more Vanillaware games...

Editing … I can recommend Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir. Fixed most of my issues with the original release, though they made the alchemy system more shallow which was one of the most interesting things about the PS2 version. But much like 13 Sentinels it has a strong non-linear narrative told from multiple perspectives, but it's a lot easier to follow. I sunk about 5 hours into Dragon's Crown and it just wasn't clicking. I might revisit it some day. Muramasa was really appealing to me but I hated playing it with the Wii mote. I'll probably emulate that one some day. It looks gorgeous in HD.

Editing … It's so weird to come back to Odin Sphere, though. I remember the first time I played Odin Sphere. It was hard as hell, man! And then I came all the way back to the remake and it's...actually playable. It's also nice that I can still reset that difficulty if I want to feel the pain, but good lord. I will always remember pain.

Editing … Overall Leifthrasir's frame rate always staying in the double digits is probably its best selling point.
