I always meant to start this ever since playing the demo kiosk at a Gamestop all those years ago. Fast forward ten years, I've finally started playing it properly. My dream is finally coming true yaaauusss!!

So now I find the game is kind of mid? Talk about anti climactic huh? You have to play through the tedious intro for like at least 90 minutes before you get the sword and the batsuit as is typical of Zelda games nowadays. The flight controls are ass and I wonder if they should just have cut this element from the game completely. And I find myself uninterested in the sword combat which you'd think was the whole point of playing. The sword can only be swung in eight directions so the game hardly feels lile the master thesis of motion controls I initially thought it to be, but rather an awkward compromise between full motion and tradition buttons.

Right now I'm stuck in this stupid forest themed area going in circles looking for talking plants. I STILL haven't even reached the first dungeon. Honestly I think I might only force myself to get up to the part that was in the demo and just quit playing after that. But we'll see.

There's also the issue of Rodea The Sky Soldier which is another Wii game I have that I finally got to check out. But on the surface the game looks to be completely unplayable. I want to keep trying anyway bc I can't get over how bad it is and maybe I'm just missing something.

Should I perhaps get another Wii game after this? It would be nice to leave the Wii on a high note rather than the memory of knowing I was way off about a game I've waited 10+ years to play. =P

Editing … Yeah the flying is completely useless. It's just a way to hide that the overworld is just a hub. I did like the sword combat though. Some enemies are actually quite hard to beat. The wii motion controls work really well imo but the switch ones suck. On the switch I just use the regular controller and I like it quite a bit. I found myself wanting to use those stick sword slash controls in tears of the kingdom because that link is a bit uncreative in his sword swings. I recently replayed SS and I liked it more than I remember. There is a lot wrong with it but the dungeons are pretty good especially the ancient cistern. To me it feels more like a mario game though at certain moments and then it snaps back to being zelda. The game is a bit weird. Also be prepared to fight the avocado at least 3 or 4 times.

Editing … The overworld does indeed feel like a glorified level select screen. It's so lackluster.

Editing … Yeah. It's strange tears of the kingdom does a very good job of sky to ground travel but totk has shit dungeons. Skyward sword and tears of the kingdom should have sex I think. You could have bad luck and get a game out of it that has a bad overworld and bad dungeons but if you breed them long enough you would get the perfect combo of dungeons and overworld. Maybe throw in some OOT and ALTTP for ballance. After that maybe start a breeding program with Windwaker and twilight princess and the resulting hybrid game we just made and selects for story and atmosphere and good vibes.

Editing … I misjudged what TotK was, the trailers made me think it was BotW 2, while articles and social media posts make it seem like a reinvogirated Banjo Nuts & Bolts. ... And in other news, Skyward Sword HD is 39.99 digital at Best Buy. https://www.dekudeals.com/items/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword-hd

Editing … I could not describe tears of the kingdom. It is both botw 2 and nuts & bolts but also none of the above. I think Aonuma's gameplay demonstration gives the most honest look at the game. The new gameplay mechanics are really the core of the game. The new music and area's also give off a different vibe from botw.
