Editing … Beans, grains, potatoes, sweet corn, nuts and seeds and things like acorns store really well. You could also dry some fruits and vegetables if you'd like. Practically everything I eat could be stored for at least a year unrefrigerated. The only thing I'd miss would be fresh veggies and fruits but then all of the non-vegans outside of the equator would also miss them from their diet. Living near the equator sounds like a nice option too. Why any people decided to leave the equator is beyond me.

Tropical nativ settlements were on opposit locations compared to europe. We prefer valleys and rivers or lakes to settle, there top of hills staying away from waterways.

Editing … You don't have to have potatoes if you don't want. Every region has native sources of grains and root vegetables. If you're talking about actual vegans in pre-potatocolumbus times, Jainism and other Indian modes of thought that required a vegan lifestyle existed long before Christ. Buddhist monks have also been a thing for centuries. It's perfectly doable to live as a vegan or vegetarian in ancient times and people have actually done so, but it's rather difficult to find people or groups of people willing to forgo the pleasure of eating of meat. It's not something people do so easily and that's why a vegan diet is almost always attached to a strong ethical or religious worldview. Only sometimes do people forgo eating meat because they just do not like it and think it tastes like bollocks. Those people exist but they are very rare. I wonder if ancient vegans also had to deal with people taunting them.

Editing … What was that facebook link? It doesn't work for me. Based on klem's comment I assume it was about Bryan Johnson. I've been hearing a lot of social media accounts trashing veganism but you have to admit he actually looks in shape, so maybe there's something to what he's doing. His diet regimen looks clean, although I'm suspicious how anyone could ever actually feel full eating what he eats.

Editing … Oh the link was a meme about a dad and his older son. And then something about the son saying something about becoming a man and then the dad says:"lol but you're vegan tho!". I dunno who this Bryan Johnson is...... Okay a crazy dude obsessed with aging. His morning routine is even more meticulous than Patric Bateman's. I was thinking why is he so white and pasty... But I bet he wants to prevent photo aging of his skin. He made himself his own lab rat. Kind of entertaining. He's like a massive nerd using science to get in shape. Those lobsters are cute btw. I would not mind them taking me captive.
