Just replayed this with tons of nice mods -- better textures, better character models, even a few nicely redone movies.... but I was really really impressed with **voice acting**. They narrated ALL the lines (and even movies), and it is actually quite good work!

Editing … I would say it is very easy to mod -- this "7th Heaven" program manages all the mods for you, it is super easy to use.

Editing … What took me a little longer was: (i) Choose what mods I actually wanted; (ii) Make it so Steam would still record achievements and playing time, and (iii) Make it convenient with Big Picture, so I did not need to leave the couch to use mouse or keyboard after the initial setup. At the end, I was extremely successful with all 3 things, and I am not a programmer or anything like that.

Editing … A few hints if you ever go this way: (i) Install the Steam game on a data drive (meaning, not on "Program Files", but on a "D:" drive or something), so you do not have to worry about admin privileges and such. (ii) Inside 7th Heaven, under "Settings"/"Game Driver"/"Advanced" there is a "Steam Compatibility" switch. Turn it on to keep Steam on the loop (achievements and playing time).

Editing … Finally, if you care about the Big Picture experience: (i) Import "7th Heaven" to Steam using "Add a Non-Steam game to my Library"; then (ii) inside Steam give it the following launch options: "/PROFILE:Default /LAUNCH /QUIT". This way 7th Heaven launches FF7 automatically, and quits when you end the game, returning you to Big Picture.

Editing … With these, the game was quite stable and looked really nice. One big exception: sometimes grand graphical effects did not look right; for example, the final boss has that 2 minute long "Super Nova" limit break that is supposed to show you the whole Solar System one planet at a time, but I spent most of the 2 mins looking at a blank screen and hearing "whoosh" sounds.

Editing … Also: the mods stopped me from accessing a few tutorial rooms (the modders seem to be working on them). Not much lost, except that there is a "Enemy Skill Materia" in one of these rooms. In order to get it, I had to play a little without mods, get the materia, and then turn the mods back on. It was quite easy with the 7th Heaven thing, the save games seemed to be compatible, at least for that little sprint.
