Well, I can dig up to 500 meters deep in standard mode. I can't dig any further in "Classic" difficulty because the blocks' AI is rigged or something. I mean, this game replicates the exact sensation of an arcade. Including the part where I die whenever I'm playing good. Sigh...

Editing … lol, I started playing Drill Spirits again. I just wish it had a way to delete save data. Putting that one foible aside, I like it more than Drill Land.

Editing … Yeah man, I can now see why this version didn't get ported when it first came out. The controls are just wtf. I mean, I'm clearly pressing the right direction for dodging these blocks, but the game doesn't register it. It's as rigged as the original version of Pac-Man. I'm guessing that I'm supposed to use the analog joystick, but that doesn't make sense for f***in' four-way Mr. Driller, does it? Mrrrgh!

Editing … As far as I know, all the best parts are the bonus modes. But that doesn't make sense for a m*****f***in' timing-based game! I kept trying the arcade mode until my hands ached. And what the hell. I cannot go more than 761 meters. Maybe the publishers should've ported the other Drill games before this one...

Editing … I think it was crazy it came out on the Gamecube, which has the worst controller for this. It should have been PS2. (or obviously the GBA or DS, but I assume they wanted to make a "console quality" Driller game) Personally I didn't like the bonus modes. I'd rather just have the classic gameplay which probably makes me a bad person, lol. But even that aside, the game's presentation is obnoxious. There are so many menus. It's one of the downsides to having all these bonus modes. It could have been done better. (Like, just give me a list of the modes and then a list of difficulties.) I'm jumping in and out to find out what everything is. Then there's the concierge that greets you in each mode who I find annoying. It's also dumb that the shop takes up space on the world map (when it perhaps ought to have been a menu option within each attraction), and whatever the parade thing is. Bloated Driller game is bloated.

Editing … They may have wanted to attract kids with this game, on account of its child friendly aesthetic, but ironically the gameplay is not meant for kids at all. It's one of the series major cruxes.

Editing … Yeah, I think I preferred the original art styles. With the Drill Land style, it looks way too similar to the Puyo Puyo Gamecube games. I mean, couldn't they do something original, like...I dunno...Godzilla style?

Editing … I like the art styles. It's a shame though because the audience for Driller games is arguably much narrower than the art style itself. Maybe there ought to be more spinoffs in the vein of Digging Strike. As in, have them set in the same world but with gameplay that is completely unrelated.

Editing … I'm more surprised that Mr. Driller switched to such an aesthetic. The Puyo Puyo franchise had the same cartoonish look in the later iterations. Must've been a trend to look as kawaii as possible.

Editing … Well that's another puzzle franchise, so.. hmm. If they both use the same art style, there must be a reason they went that route. Which is good to know, I guess. Does seem like Puyo is more well off, somehow. The Sonic cross promotion might've helped with that.
