This 007 book series isn't especially deep, but Ian Fleming really knows how to weave a creepy voodoo setting. Sure, some of the racial language has not aged well. However, as far as African-American villains are concerned, Mr. Big sure knows how to blend into the creole environment of New Orleans.

This book is well worth reading just for the mysterious voodoo doctor atmosphere alone. I still wish that Daniel Craig tried to at least recreate the magic of this book in a movie, but hey, at least he starred in the best version of Casino Royale.
