Spelunky 2 has been entertaining me a bit lately. I'm still absolute garbage at the game but some of the scenarios that happen are hilarious. There's quite a bit a new to occupy your interest but it still feels very familiar. I hate the moles, every time I'm on a good run a mole pops up and knocks me into something. Now I've just gotta find a friend I can convince to buy the game for $20 so I can play coop. That's probably where the game really shines, the matchmaking with 4 random people is way to hectic to be enjoyable.

Editing … I can't believe the first game came out seven years ago. I've put off playing it for so long. The original often goes on sale for a couple bucks. Would you say it's still worth playing or does the sequel improve the formula to the point that the original feels redundant?

Editing … You could play the freeware version and get much the same experience. The first Spelunky is mostly just a graphical update to the freeware version, with local multi added in as well. I don't think 2 makes the first one redundant either. Just adds extra enemies, scenarios, characters, items and online play. It's got a bit more polish to the story and look of the game as well. But ultimately they all feel almost identical gameplay-wise.
