Uh oh, I started a replay of this and expected to come back here and read about how the game didn't hold up but you folks are still in love with it. I'm actually really disappointed... I just did a replay of the Crash and Spyro games (except Year of the Dragon) via HD remakes and thought I'd give the Jak series a go now but haven't really been enjoying myself with the first couple of hours of playing. The camera feels wonky, the controls don't feel as responsive as I'd like, and I'm confused as to why the health bubbles are the hidden collectables and the more important orbs are just kind of laying around. Soundtrack feels a bit lackluster as well. I'll keep plodding along though. Is the PS3 HD remake a bad port camera and controls-wise?

Editing … well I just read a commenter saying this: "There's nothing wrong with the Jak or Ratchet HD titles, other than what was inherently wrong with their original releases. There are a few minor glitches I experienced, but they were mildly annoying at worst." But I would take that with a grain of salt, since it wasn't written by me, and therefore has a 99% chance of being totally wrong.

Editing … I did play Jak 2 on PS2 and it was god awful, controlled like shit, camera was also shit. I thought about getting the HD Collection, because I'm a masochist I guess.

Editing … I know I played Jak 2 & 3 but honestly I don't remember much about them other than there's guns and flying cars. My brother was more of a Jak fan than I.

Editing … I've only ever played the PS2 versions and from what I recall there were some camera issues throughout the trilogy (especially 2, I think) but nothing major or super annoying.

Editing … I think the first game is a classic and the third one is pretty great as well. 2 has some significant issues but overall is still a good game with some interesting narrative choices.

Editing … Jak II is my favorite because it's one of the only 3D platformers of its kind that boosts its difficulty to the stratosphere. Yeah, some of the 3D Marios are pretty tough in places, but I love a platformer with traditional double jumps and the like. Many a complaint has been leveled at the driving, and while it takes some getting used to, I find it entirely possible to get good at it and rather enjoy it. I've heard some complain about lack of strafing in the shooting sections, but I think it works in its own way via use of dodge rolls and auto-aim. The only parts of the game I truly dread are the racing missions. The margin for error is simply ridiculous. I'm also not a fan of the heavy-duty shoot-em-up sections where you basically have to fire blindly off screen because the camera isn't fast enough to snap back and forth when enemies are flanking you from multiple directions.

Editing … Jak 3 is fun but I'm always bummed at how much they de-emphasized the platforming. The driving, the shooting, the super-powers, the boss fights are all enjoyable but not the reason I'm there.

Editing … Yea, I remember there being a lot of focus on other elements in II & III. Which is something that happened with the Spyro games as well. The first one was just solid platforming and fairly easy. But then they started focusing on dumb minigames that weren't well polished and by the Year of the Dragon it was just out of control with minigame junk. Currently at 54% in Jak I.

Editing … II still had plenty of platforming and they were nail-bitingly intense. 3 had a small handful of platforming sections and they were a cakewalk.
