I thought it was funny how when Screen Junkies ranked all the MCU films and discussed Endgame the consensus was "Sure, the big set piece battle in the third act was amazing, but with the 3 hour run-time it was such a slog getting there." WHAT!? All the self-indulgent call-backs in the second act were the highlight of the movie, and the drama for me hit a lot harder in the first few scenes where everyone is at their lowest. Act 3 was just another army of action figures brawling with a different army of action figures.

Editing … Oh, and this conclusion didn't redeem Infinity War at all. All of that movie's issues that I thought might be addressed or subverted were hardly given a thought. I might even say it compounded them.

Editing … yeah, the entire finale sequence was what dragged this one down for me. The character-driven scenes were great, the fighting was just basic superhero action.

Editing … Something I really appreciated about Patrick H Willems' recent critiques of the MCU was how he praised Whedon's movies for how they manage to adapt comic-book splash panels to the big screen. Then he compares it to the opening of the airport sequence in Civil War where the Russos had a very similar opportunity, and it's simply not the same. In Endgame you have the mother of all opportunities with ALL the characters and ALL the factions charging into battle, and they just kinda chaotically mash into each other like a Total War battle.
