Last Exile is quite possibly Gonzo's best stab at an epic airship anime. The two heroes are adorable. The airship battles and the colorful steampunk backdrops look incredible. However, the director was forced to tie together all the story threads at the last minute. As a result, many of the characters' story arcs turn out utterly disappointing. And the world gets saved by some scared-cat seven-year-old girl or something?

This anime is still absolutely worth watching. Just don't expect the greatest show in existence, because it's not this one. It looks great, but...the story is just slow. The ending is also laughable. I won't spoil anything major, but seriously, that little Alvis girl is ridiculous.
