Baccano became the pinnacle of the artsy new wave of experimental anime, filled with high animation quality, multiple storylines and classy style. Although Durarara was more or less successful with its urban cultural edge, Baccano tried so many violent, twisted ideas that shocked people for its entire run. The concept of immortal gangsters didn't really make a single coherent plot, but the spunky characters truly defined the entire series. Even if the show was a total commercial flop, it was one of the most brazenly original ideas to date.
