In comparison to its prequels, Rayman 3 suffers from being far too 'Americanized', losing a substantial amount of its quirkiness and originality. The gameplay is mostly similar to Rayman 2, but with more emphasis on combat and featuring far less creative platforming. The player receives new abilities in the form of Hoodlum cans, and while they help to add variety to they gameplay, they can rarely be used creatively and individually have little depth to them. The story is entertaining, providing spotlight moments for both the villain André, and the comedy sidekick Globox. The boss fights are entertaining, the last in particular providing a challenging yet satisfying conclusion to the game.
