    I heard that bananas are evolving or something like that and the bananas we eat today are completely different to the ones our grandparents ate.

    Anybody else think that's amazing?

      Editing … Cavendish is the most popular banana at the moment. It's the one you typically see in supermarkets and shops. They are all grown from the same strain. This happens with all fruit and veg. The more popular ones are kept and used to grow new crops, while the less popular ones get ignored. Eventually only one variety exists at a mainstream level. It makes for good profits, but leaves them susceptible to disease. Essentially we could lose massive quantities of crops to a single disease because all the plants are too genetically similar.

      Editing … Fun fact: the banana flavour you get in milkshakes and whatnot is the "original" banana flavour. i.e the variety we used to use. I think that species may have died out though.
