Stars' debut album flew under the radar of everyone when it first came out. It was a rare gem that crossed the sounds of dark trip-hop with light indie rock. None of the songs are real show-stoppers, but the album still has a seductive club sound blended with the cheery optimism of early baroque pop. Although Stars eventually transformed into a full rock band, they were the start of a new wave of cutting-edge Canadian bands. They never gained the same popularity as Arcade Fire, but Stars was still revolutionary in their own right.
