Editing … yeah I believe you, 2 SUCKS so far. Am I really gonna have to grind these effortless enemies before I'm able to even attempt the ones that actually do any damage? I'm restricted to such a small area, unable to progress as I'm surrounded by a border of one-shot kills.

Editing … I don't know, the early Final Fantasy games were really weird, I hardly played them. If you make one step in the wrong direction on the world map then you are suddenly encountering enemies which are way out of your league.

Editing … Protip, I haven't tried it but I've heard it works really well, spend a few hours having your characters punch each other in the face. It'll increase both their hand-to-hand damage and their HP. Doing that will make fists stronger than any other weapon in the game and you can tear right through it with massive damage and massive HP.

Editing … Just to let you know if you're playing them in order it'll take you a while to see what people actually like in FF. It starts to develop a minor focus on characters/story from FF4, FF5 steps back on the story a little bit but is good in its own way, then FF6 really amps up the story and characters and that's when it really becomes the FF everyone loves.

Editing … Someone else told me about attack cancelling. If I just spam attack, cancel the order, then make it again, then the game will give me XP based on how many attacks were ordered. I can even mix in magic, and even though the spells are never cast, they're still getting leveled up. That + attacking my own party for HP introduces whole new types of grinding to this already incredibly grindy game. h-hooray...

Editing … Your character stats go up whenever you use them, so realistically you can "level" faster by fighting the weak enemies, so don't waste your time with the tougher ones.

Editing … So it doesn't even matter what levels my enemies are, it's just based on how much the stat's used? Some sorta quantity of use over quality. This is generally my preferred leveling method though, the sorta thing I'm used to only seeing in The Elder Scrolls. It's less "gamey," a bit more immersive. Makes you focus less on XP numbers (breaking immersion and thinking in game terms) and more on flexing your muscles for each talent you want strengthened.
