It's a daring choice for director Hayao Miyazaki to choose the designer of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane for an anime movie, let alone an anime biopic. War has always been a touchy subject for animated movies, but The Wind Rises examined how an engineer's love for aviation pushed him to construct one of the most advanced airplanes ever flown in World War 2. It's an incredible labor of love that demonstrates Hayao Miyazaki's masterful ability to extend the boundaries of animation far beyond the realm of fantasy.
