Steven Soderbergh's return to film after 4 years (guess retirement wasn't cut out for him after all) is a safe project that he does incredibly well. Heist films aren't all that foreign to the man (see all those damn "Ocean" movies he made ages ago) and he does them, for the most part, pretty well. Logan Lucky doesn't really buck that trend (tbh haven't seen any of the Ocean sequels so for all I know you can say be he gets back on track with it) because it's pretty damn well made. It's entertaining and I found it to be a fun experience. It's got some fun characters and it plays out the heist aspect well. It's not a mind blowing or game changing experience, but it is a solid, well executed, genre exercise. Soderbergh still has the capability to be a talented director.
