I honestly didn't know anything about this until a friend just said "Touhou" out of the blue. It ranks among the hardest shmups ever made. For an obscure indie project, it sure grew into a big thing in Japan. I love the challenging gameplay and the barebones MIDI soundtrack. Koumakyou is not my favorite, but it's still really fun to play as the most powerful shrine maiden in the world.
