TV On The Radio was the first indie band to change the entire formula of how to make a hit rock song. Although they weren't the first to sing about racial injustice, they were certainly the first to combine it with African-American gospel-style singing, shoegaze-style guitars and programming and...a lot of other stuff that sounds astoundingly epic. Return To Cookie Mountain just happened to capture them with their best massive arrangements of loud guitars, jangly keyboards and intense post-punk dance beats. Yeah, the band is crazy.
