Editing … My main issue is with the keyboard. The time i've played WASD it my hand hurts after 5 minutes. More like arthritis and mouse.

Editing … A mouse is a decent alternative to a right stick but even gaming keyboards are designed for typing first with gaming as an afterthought and it shows. WASD is a mediocre way to control movement (only 8 directions, no altering how hard you press to adjust your speed) and there are ten times more buttons than most games need.

Editing … No one uses WASD on it's own, movement is used in combination with the mouse. For most games I use almost entirely mouselook + Mouse Button 4 for movement with WASD as a side.

Editing … Yeah and the left stick often gets used in combination with the right stick working the camera in pretty much the same way. My point about WASD being mediocre compared to an analogue stick or even a good d-pad still stands. It's only 8 directional and you can't vary how hard you're pressing to control movement speed. That's why I use a 360 pad for most PC games.

Editing … I can see mouse and keyboard getting to the top of this list but only because every PC gamer's going to rank the same thing whereas the "controllers are better" vote's split between 8 generations worth of controllers.

Editing … Personally I prefer M&K for first person shooters as well due to the mouse being very precise for aiming but it's all up to personal preferences I suppose lol

Editing … I'm more used to a right stick but yeah, aiming with a mouse is better. It's the keyboard that's the weak link. Unless you're desperate for that slightly better aiming input I don't think the mouse is worth putting up with WASD and the clutter of keys you don't need when you could have a left stick and some nicely laid out face buttons/shoulder buttons/triggers.

Editing … A mouse might be better than a right stick for it but I still enjoy playing FPS's with a controller more anyway. Strategy's the only genre where I'd actually want a keyboard and I barely play strategy.

Editing … There are a few games I prefer with controller, but usually because the kb/m support was poor (Force Unleashed, Lego). I do prefer Audiosurf with a controller despite kb/m probably being more popular with it, though. My Steam Controller setup is the most popular one for Lego Marvel Super Heroes, since I designed it so you can drive and, especially, fly with the gyro controls :p (the most fun I had in the game before uninstalling it, the missions were not for me)

Editing … The only downside to mouse and wand I can think of is that you'd still have to game at a desk, other than that it sounds ideal.I still need to try a Stream controller as well, what are they like?

Editing … Well first off, a Steam Controller might not appeal if you don't like anything about PC gaming. Me for example, I love all the options I have on PC, being able to choose between best graphics or best framerate, scouring the options for that holy Borderless Windowed mode (AC Rogue first AC to have it!!!!), spend the first five minutes of each game modifying the control scheme to fit my ideal setup (my AC setup might be one best example, since in many ways it's so completely different from the default, especially in the Ezio games).

Editing … The Steam Controller appeals to that sort of person who wants to take the time to find perfection for themselves. Sure, you can download a community setup (and modify it yourself), or stick with the default setup (which has often been designed by the game's developer, luckily), or you can start from scratch and rebind everything. You can really modify the properties of just about everything, you can set it so some buttons do something different if another button is held down, you can set the edge of the touchpad to keep scrolling if you hold your thumb at the edge, or the right trackpad to operate like a trackball, so you can flick your finger and the camera keeps moving. The gamepad has a slight learning curve that might take an hour or even more to get used to (much like first using a controller has a learning curve--ever handed a parent a gamepad?), but afterwards, it's pretty great.

Editing … I like PC gaming for the bargains on steam, the indie scene and the free online. I like the endless customisation as well when there's a payoff like with Skyrim mods but not so much when it's a case of faffing around/googling solutions when there's a glitch or playing with graphics settings trying to get the game to run at a decent frame rate. I can't imagine designing my own control scheme would feel worth the effort most of the time but I am really curious about how the trackpads are to use compared to a mouse/analogue stick.
