The speedrunners always use Nidoran. If you're still using Pikachu I imagine that'd be quite the challenge. You'll probably wanna teach it Submission, and ideally Surf as well if you're playing a physical copy and have Stadium. I suppose you could also trade it and evolve it into a Raichu.

Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I did the same Demi, and because Totodile is water, he can learn most of the HM's that you need to proceed, like surf and waterfall. The only other pokemon of somewhat high level I had by the Elite Four were Ho-oh and that shiny Gyrados you catch on the lake :P
