The Getaway is RHCP's 11th album and their second since Frusciante departure. When guitarists change with the RHCP there's a tendency to completely shift the sound, case in point, their first three albums and #One Hot Minute. The thing is, Josh, their new guitarist is a close friend of Frusciante, who as also his mentor, so there wasn't a significant shift in tone with I'm With You, but the album was mostly boring, with the exception of Factory of Faith.
Thankfully, Josh's second effort is way better, and probably my fav non-Frusciante album (I would say even better than Mother's Milk as well), The Getaway mostly sounds like a 00's RHCP album, the funk rock is back and mixed with a slightly mellow tone. The result is a bunch of pretty decent songs, but that really don't reach RHCP's greatest reportoir, with the exception of #Dark Necessities and #Goodbye Angels. If the entire album was the last minute of Goodbye Angels I would probably give them a 10/10, one of my fav solos ever.

Editing … But, alas, it isn't. I will recommend this album to everyone that really enjoys RHCP, but if you don't like or don't feel like the RHCP songs are all that great, then this album won't change your opinion at all, it's more of the same and slightly less impressive.
