I have no idea what to rate this. The writing really fell off at the end, but overall it was an incredibly effective thriller, depicting such grotesque or twisted personalities with extreme positivity. As a dystopian film, it accomplished something I don't think I've seen before, as it presents the loss of rights as a constructive change. It's a really fucked up movie.
So, do I like it? Do I not? I really can't say. It did a very good job at making me feel uncomfortable, but the ending, while disconcerting, was also very unfulfilling, and not in the "wait, there's more to the story!" way. It almost felt like a cop-out, like the showrunners found themselves quickly approaching the end of their runtime and had to rush their actors out of the screen so the next film could set their stage up.
I'll go with something positive, because I feel that its scary effectiveness of having the protagonist happily embrace, nay, pursue a dystopia, should be felt by more viewers.Loading …
