I should just focus on PS2 emulation for now, and graduate up as the need arises. PS2 should be much simpler to get running. But I'm not sure what method would be best for me. Emulating on PC sucks, emulating on android is probably terrible, while steam deck seems overkill for the job even if I do figure out how to get it set up. Handheld PCs will combine the faults of the steam deck and PC, while retro handhelds might be only marginally better than using a smartphone.

Maybe it's not as simple as I thought. I should try PC first, for educational purposes. It will be easier to figure out how to get PS2 working on other devices if I've done it on PC first.

I might attempt it tonight. If anyone knows where I can get games, please tell me. And anything else that's required such as a bios.

Editing … did you know android consoles apparently suck at running PS2? It really seems like Steam deck is the bare minimum. But like.. why should I need something that big to run games that are on par w what the Vita can do.

Editing … Maybe if I just wait. The android consoles are getting incrementally more powerful (and they keep cranking out new ones) so it's only a matter of time before we get models w decent PS2 performance.

Editing … Ok, it works. But my PC is apparently not strong enough to run it well. But that's ok, I achieved what I wanted. Maybe I'll try getting it set up on android next. P.S. When I closed the emulator there was a dialogue window with a checkbox save state on resume? So the next time I play the emulator it will.. wait no, that makes no sense. If it did, why would it say save state on resume. It would say 'save state before closing'.

Editing … oh I stand corrected. The emulator really does it. I actually went back and tested it to make sure. I opened the game and then closed the emulator, hit the checkbox. Then opened the emulator again. I open the game and it asks if you want to open the save state from when you closed it, or do a fresh boot instead. Now to be fair, it would've been better if it did every part of this without asking you for confirmation every step. But this nonetheless might be serviceable. It really doesn't take up that much time all in all.

Editing … nod- I have no intention of running any RPGs. (ツ) like, ever. It's only Need for Speed for me. Maybe some Burnout, Ratchet, random FPS and other things like that. And whichever Arrmored Core games that weren't ported to PSP, like Nexus.

Editing … The racing games take up all the processing power so you may need a faster PC to play them perfectly, but PCs are cheap now, you can buy a used one for next to nothing that can emulate PS2 no problem.

Almost done ripping my library to the HDD. The games work like a charm, I can use a virtual memory card, I figured out how to hook up a wireless DS3 with it, and I've got RetroArch up and running some emulators. The PS2 homebrew scene is alive and well. Some of these apps have updates literally this past week. So still fiddling with things but it's coming along nicely.

The ps2 to me is a really fun and nostalgic system. Generally considered the best platform of the 6th generation it really shines with it's large exclusive library as well as having most of the games released in it's generation available to play. My problems with this system are that it is weaker than most of the other 6th generation consoles meaning for inferior versions of games available on other platforms. I really enjoy this platform but I ranked it lower in the list because I haven't had as much experience with it as I did with the GameCube.

    "The Third Place"
Remember that slogan, which Sony used in an ad campaign for the PS2 in the 2000s ?
You know, I never understood what those words meant. Today I looked it up on wikipedia:

the first place = your home
the second place = your workplace
the third place = where you spend your leasure time at
