This was the first (and only) web comic that I kept up with on a regular basis for a year. A lot of the story ideas kind of repeated themselves, but I really enjoyed seeing Fred Gallagher develop this website/comic. It's a simple story about two nerds stranded in Tokyo, engaging in comical mischief and going out with girls who work at maid cafes. Fred also adds in charming references to a lot of his favorite anime shows, such as Haibane Renmei.

A lot of his characters are based on real-life friends of Fred. One of the friends, Dom, actually appeared on Jeopardy. That was fun to watch. He didn't win, btw.

Editing … MegaTokyo remains my favorite webcomic of all time, and one of my favorite stories in any medium. It starts out fairly simple with a basic plot (two gamers get stranded in Japan) but eventually developed into a deep overarching myth arc about the nature of reality and the role of stories and the people who make them. All of the characters are memorable and likable, from Junpei the 1337 ninja to Yuki the fledgling magical girl to Boo the hamster conscience to the main four (or five, if you count Miho) themselves. A lot of people complain about the sketchiness of the art, but I've always loved the character designs and the look of the setting.

Editing … I've fallen behind in the past couple of years (as well as with all my other webcomics; I just took a break for awhile and it keeps getting longer despite plans to get back into it) but I need to get back to it. A lot of people rag on the schedule slip, and it's understandable, but in the long run it's always been worth it and he always comes through. I understand he's actually picked up the pace slightly lately as well! :)

Editing … In the meantime maybe I'll go back and reread the trades again before getting back to it. I've basically got the major plot beats down by heart now but it's always fun to go back, and it's intricate enough that it might be helpful.

Editing … I'm pretty sure it will, but I don't think there are any specifics set. I think he's in the middle of chapter 12 now.

Editing … There are three or four e-book light novels set in Endgames that he's co-authored, though. I haven't gotten to them yet.
