So after using Mac OS X for a bit, I finally installed Deepin Linux and Windows 10 on it, which contrary to what the internet would have you believe, turned out to be a relatively painless process. Linux installed just fine from a USB stick, and made GRUB the default boot manager. Mac OS wasn't auto-detected, but still accessible using the Option key. I manually added it to the boot menu from Linux.

Then I installed Windows, which was a bit more fiddly. Apparently Macs with optical drives block Windows installs over USB, so I burned it to a disc. Then Windows didn't wanna install as it detected too many primary partitions, so I removed my Linux drive. It installed just fine, but didn't create an EFI partition as it detected one on my Mac drive. This makes it kind of a pain to boot with GRUB, so I switched to rEFInd as my boot manager. Next time I'll just remove all drives before installing Windows.

In any case, Windows 8.1 and subsequently 10 worked just fine out of the box (only had to download separate audio drivers as the Microsoft drivers made the volume too low). Definitely not something I'm used to as a former XP user. Couldn't even take your PC online without installing drivers first..

Still don't know what Boot Camp is supposed to do, but it seems pointless as Windows installs and runs just fine without it. With it, I don't think anything higher than Windows 7 is even supported on this machine.

So in just a few hours I'll be receiving my Mac Pro early 2008 model. Not being an Apple person whatsoever (aside from always loving the design of the first gen iMacs and iBooks, which I might still purchase one of at some point), I didn't find out about these until fairly recently, but immediately fell in love with the design (both interior and exterior).

As it turns out, a PC that cost like three grand 8 years ago, still makes a great gaming rig today, at only a fraction of the price. I managed to get a refurbished unit for just 330 euros, which was quite the steal. It was also the most recent Mac Pro I was able to afford, as going for a 2009 model would've tripled the price, it seems.

They even threw in an Apple keyboard and mouse, and it comes with the latest Mac OS pre-installed, which is nice as the last two versions of OS X no longer require you to buy a Mac-specific video card or flash a regular one. You basically pop one in and it'll just work (you just won't see a boot screen). So I might actually do some Mac gaming on it and see what that's like, but my main OS will be Linux as always (though I'll probably have to put Windows on there as well at some point...). Just need to add a better video card, some more RAM, and probably an SSD, and it's ready to go. Not sure yet if I'll buy a GTX 9xx, or go for the ever-popular GTX 750 Ti budget card.

I abandoned PC gaming like 6 years ago as my hardware started to age too much, so it's exciting to get back into the fold after all these years. Now what to do with all this power... Hmmm... I see Hotline Miami 2 is on sale on Steam and I haven't played it yet. Yeah, let's go with that.
