Kingdom Hearts (キングダム ハーツ, Kingudamu Hātsu?) is a series of action role-playing games developed and published by Square Enix (originally by Square). It is a collaboration between Square Enix and Disney Interactive Studios, and is under the direction of Tetsuya Nomura, a longtime Square Enix character designer. Kingdom Hearts is a crossover of various Disney settings based in a universe made specifically for the series. The series centers on the main character Sora and his search for his friends and encounters with Disney, Final Fantasy and The World Ends With You characters on their worlds. The series consists of seven games across multiple video game consoles, and future titles are planned. Most of the games in the series have been both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, though each title has seen varying levels of success. Saved!The KH4 announcement got me obsessing over the series again. I did my usual and consumed everything Kingdom Hearts for a month straight. But hey, at least I got myself an Ultimania out of it, and I finally completed Birth By Sleep, after rage-quitting the final boss over a decade ago. I'm excited for the new game and intrigued as to how it will be structured, but I know it's still a ways out and I'm not expecting it till 2024 at the earliest. KH3 was a poorly-paced mess of a game, but when it did hit its stride, damn was it fun. Which unfortunately is how I feel about most of Square Enix's games now. They usually feel cobbled-together and poorly directed, but although I still end up having fun, I just wish the quality was more consistent. Either way, I am super hyped to hit some more heartless with a big ol' key!

Saved!If you want further evidence that our all digital future is going to suck like Kirby, have a look at the Kingdom Hearts page on the Epic Game Store. I think it's pretty cool that we've been getting so many surprise PC ports, not the least of which being Kingdom Hearts, but look at the prices.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 is $64.99 CAD, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 is $79.99 CAD and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (these fuckin' titles I swear) is $79.99 CAD. This adds up to about $225 CAD.
At retail stores you can currently buy Kingdom Hearts All-In-1 for PS4, which can be played at a buttery 60fps on PS5 and brand new will cost you a whopping....
$39.99 CAD.
The PC ports cost over FIVE AND A HALF TIMES AS MUCH! I mean I know Kingdom Hearts and Squeenix fans love throwing their money away, but in this economy can literally anyone other than the wealthy justify shelling out that much cash?-

Saved!My latest obsession. I did a playthrough of most of the series recently (I rage-quit Birth By Sleep after accidentally overwriting my save file, and I never played Coded or 358/2 Days just watched the scenes in the HD collections).
It was good getting to play Chain of Memories for the first time, as well as finishing Dream Drop Distance. It had also been nearly a decade since I last played KH2 Kingdom Hearts 3 was a blast even second time round, although I did use cheats this time. Re:Mind was also fun, if a little short and one too many repeated boss fights.
But even after I finished the whole series again, it hasn't left my mind. I adore the travesty of a storyline and just cannot get it out of my head. I love convoluted nonsense and I don't truly understand why. It's been fun trying to guess where the future of the series will go.
Definitely one of my favourite game series even if it does have a lot of flaws.-

I just really hate the DS and would rather not put myself through the pain of playing the damn thing. I'm enjoying PS4 gaming right now, so I bought the Complete Collection or whatever the Kingdom Hearts equivalent is. -

Saved!The Angry Video Game Nerd is kinda late to the party, but I would have said the same thing about Kingdom Hearts. The games play great. It's just...the story is a mess.
Some people said that it makes sense if I play it in order, but I doubt it. I already got confused when Soras created Roxas or something.-

Saved!Husky WingEditing … I mean is it really that confusing that the keyblade can unlock and lock hearts, and that the hearts it releases from the Heartless are collected to form Kingdom Hearts (of which there is more than one), which has the power to awaken those who've lost their hearts? Or that worlds themselves have hearts, which can be locked to keep the Heartless out of them? You act like this is out of the ordinary

Saved!Following the addition of the keyblade and Mickey's KH2 outfit to Disney Infinity 3.0, Sora being added to World of Final Fantasy as a summon, and the KH 2.8 Limited Edition coming with an official Disney Pin Trading pin, we'll soon have KH Funko Pops.
It's really nice to see Disney finally give KH some recognition. It is theirs, after all. And thanks to Funko, you can now get a KH figure for just 10 bucks instead of having to pay the minimum of 50 for a Static Arts figure.
Obviously the quality won't be the same, but I'm all for making merchandise of my favorite franchises affordable, and Funko has managed to get access to quite a few Japanese IPs recently.
Unfortunately the lineup does not include any original KH characters like Sora. I know these Disney characters have a much broader appeal, but when I look at some of the other Funko Pops, I can't imagine that's the problem. Hopefully it's not Square Enix that's putting a stop to having Sora as a Funko Pop, but ultimately it wouldn't be their decision...
Anyway, Chip and Dale look adorable, Donald and Pete are perfect, Goofy is... goofy, and Mickey is easily the worst of the bunch. He's far too dead-eyed.
Nonetheless, I'll be picking up all of them.

Also, in other KH news, holy shit Sora is coming to World of Final Fantasy! Hopefully this finally opens up the possibility to have him in other Square Enix products like Dissidia. -

Saved!AxersiaEditing … I bought both compilations but only in Japanese, so this works out quite well for me. Now that they're actually releasing in the same month and not 3 months apart, I can go straight for the English release. This'll be my 5th copy of KH2... That's kinda silly.

Saved!AxersiaEditing … Both games are part of the Greatest Hits line in North America and Essentials line in Europe, so you can easily get them for 20 bucks online. If you insist on getting them off a shelf though, then yeah, I don't know that you're gonna find them. Still, unless you're really itching to play some KH right this instant, I'd recommend waiting as the PS4 versions will run at 60fps.

Saved!I realize it's a bit early for this, but I'm really excited to see where Kingdom Hearts will go after the "Dark Seeger Saga." I'm hoping for all new playable characters, and pretty much no returning cast. That'll be exciting. It'll feel fresh!
