Just spent all afternoon prepping the back 40. Cleared the brush, rototilled the soil, then added 12 wheelbarrows of compost, and then rototilled again to get a nice mix. Not quite time for planting yet but it feels good to get ahead of the game.

Editing … Yeas! Gardening! I didn't know you did gardening. I really like gardening it gives you a different perspective on time. Plants wait for no one. You have to be more aware of the seasons and weather than you normally would. Are you planting decorative plants or vegetables?

Editing … btw for anyone interested in wild native plants this guy has a great channel ("Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't"). He is a rough shady guy who speaks his mind out loud and is very entertaining to watch. You would never expect a guy like that to be into plants but he is borderline obsessed and very knowledgeable about plants. I like his views on nature and he stealth plants native plants everywhere he goes. He is probably responsible for a whole forest by now. : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlSBkTFEcL4

Editing … Sounds like an amazing vegetable garden plan. I never thought of growing beans but then again maybe I can’t here. I have potatoes mostly because the snails eat everything else. Zucchini and pumpkins are fine too though the snails like to eat those as well but they grow so fast the snails can’t eat it all and after a while the pumpkin and zucchini get prickly hairs to protect them. Peas are fine too I think because the snails find them difficult to climb. I should collect the snails someday but I am too lazy now.

I'm thinking of getting into some amateur gardening. The soil quality in my garden isn't amazing, but we managed to grow some rhubarb and blackberries last year, as well as a whole bunch of flowers and plants. I reckon if I can find the time to do a little bit each week, our garden will look pretty good. Plus I wanna keep the bees going.

Editing … It's great to come home after work and grab some fresh veggies from a garden. Tomatoes, Green Beans, and Cucumbers don't require to much maintenance and usually come out bountiful. They also taste x10 better than their supermarket counterparts.

Editing … Maybe it's a British thing, we love our BBQs in the garden in summer. A nice garden is essential! When I was in Munich though there were literally hundreds of apartment buildings, in Hull we have 3. Different culture and all that, maybe Germans never thought a garden important? I dunno.

Editing … It is common here to sit in the garden (and BBQ) actually, but often not connected to apartments due lack of space. In fact it is a "rented" one in "colonies of such, for own use, more common for older generation of germans though. Exception are "russiangermans" who like gardening and fishing at any age.

Editing … Proper gardening here is dying for sure. My grandparents and their generation had flowers and roses and spent a fortune on plants and weeded on their hands and knees. Today it's about a nice space to chill out in, flowers are too much hassle. Id actually be happy with a large balcony on an apartment if it was south facing and got all the sun, it'd be easier than gardening.

Editing … Yeah prefer a balkony over a garden. Getting a proper balkony is tricky, older houses often have none or direction is not usefull and too small.
