Pro: Hugo Weaving goes all #Mrs. Doubtfire

Con: Tom Hanks does a horrible Irish accent. Oh, and the entire movie sucks I guess.

Editing … The Netflix CCO says there's a 4-hour cut of the movie that he absolutely loves. Hopefully that's a hint that we'll get an extended edition streaming :p

Editing … As much as I like that rule in principle Rob I agree with Gries this time. I've never seen a film so disjointed. It's not one film, it's six short films that keep interrupting each other with different settings/stories/characters/genres but all using the same actors. One sixth's a pretty good Matrix style sci-fi that reminds you the Wachowskis were directing but after that you've got everything from cliched detective and post apocalypse stories to a comedy about escaping an old folks home and it just doesn't tie together or wow you with a clever message like it's trying to.

For once, Gries and I agree (and, again, I'll probably move a few ranks further up Ulty's hit list). But really. If you want to wow and impress me with some epic elaborate overlong mess of a film, please make sure it has something more interesting and engaging to say than "Dude, we are all, like, connected on some inter-galactic, cosmic level. Like, deep, man". Hou Hsiao-Hsien's Three Times did that already, but without blowing an entire country's GDP on its budget.

Editing … The message might've been simple, but the use of multiple timelines and the same actors in all of them was a truly groundbreaking execution. And that's mostly what I loved about the film, not only I dug the characters and the constant jumping between timelines, you're really watching something that has never been done before. Like Roger Ebert said "Easily one of the most ambitious films ever made". You're not further up my hit list, you explained yourself quite well and I respect your opinion. Actually you used exact same arguments my brother uses, he hated the movie too xD

Getting some serious #The Counselor vibes after seeing this movie and, like with The Counselor, I'm quite fascinated by it and I'd like to rewatch it at some point.

Editing … So is it that the story on the whole is disjointed or is the way the movie presents it? I've heard the book was pretty good. Have you had a chance to read it?

Editing … I actually thought the six stories transitioned between each other pretty seamlessly. That's why I thought this movie was so masterful, not only it's ambitious but I thought it did what it tried to do brilliantly. I don't think they were supposed to "tie in" into an ending, the point of the movie is that in one life you might be a completely different person than in another (hence the multiple genres, brilliant decision there if you ask me). I can perfectly understand why you felt that way though, my brother has the same opinion...

Editing … It's more that I didn't feel like there was a whole story Daniel, they're near enough six separate ones. There were links between them but they mostly either seemed really small or a bit forced. Can't say I've read the book, I wonder how different it is. I get what you mean about it being seamless Ulty, it was cut well so the stories didn't really interrupt eachother at bad moments. All the same, it still felt like trying to watch six very different films at once.

Editing … The ambitious storytelling of the film may not be everyone's cup of tea, I get that, but the movie was still brilliantly directed and breathtakingly well shot. A movie that looks and sounds this good is very rare too.
