So, I kind of knew James wasn't doing as much as he used to on the channel, mostly because of time constraints with his family, but also, in my opinion, because of jadedness. Still, I thought he was more than just a face. From what I understand he doesn’t play much of the games he’s reviewing anymore, and he hasn’t been editing the videos for a while now, but today we learn that he isn’t even involved in writing his own movie reviews; the thing he is most passionate about.

I thought yesterday’s review was a departure from his usual style, a lot more political with some sentences and words feeling a bit odd coming from him, but I thought, in good faith, that he was evolving as a reviewer maybe. Turns out he is not. I’m not really surprised by today’s reveal, but I’m still disappointed. Cinemassacre has been a big part of my teenage years and it makes me sad seeing it become this soulless corporate entertainment machine with a familiar face.

Editing … Yeah, Mike Matei left because it all got way too corporate when Screenwave Media took over more of the production process. I'm pretty sure that the only truly original content is the Angry Video Game Nerd? I mean, it's fine, I guess. Bleh.

Editing … ha! so true. Gamecube and Windows are prime offenders. PSP when it starts a game can be pretty loud too. Funnily enough I don't remember what the Switch Lite startup sound is. Maybe it doesn't have one, in which case kudos to Nintendo. Vita doesn't have one either I think.

Editing … Switch Lite and the Vita didn't really have one. That surprised me. Maybe everyone got sick of putting those on portable systems.

Editing … That conversation reminds me--Tales of Hearts R was an effing Gamestop exclusive for the Vita in the United States. That's the weirdest idea ever. On one hand, Namco's JRPGs don't sell as well outside Japan, so it was probably okay to test that idea out. However, they did this on the Vita, the one system that almost no one bought. So now those game cards sell for $70 in the States. That blows.

Editing … The game has random battles, sooo..... (but then again, I have Tales of the Abyss on 3DS and Tales of Vesperia on the Switch, neither of which have random battles but they still didn't hold my interest. It doesn't cut it in my book to have every encounter simply involve walking right a bit and mashing the attack button.)

Editing … Vesperia was the most polished game in the series. I'm pretty sure that it made the most refinements with the battle system, the music and the overall atmosphere. So if Bonnie Pink's intro couldn't get you hyped, then this series probably isn't for you. I mean, I tried to beat at least one Tales game, but my only copy of Vesperia is on the Xbox 360 so...yeah. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve4LqfqpdSE

Editing … In general, I'm not a Tales fan. That series became extremely formulaic over time. It peaked in quality with Vesperia and Xillia. And even then, I still had gripes with those games.
