Ann Makosinski, a then-16-year old student from Victoria, British Columbia, participated in 2013 Google Science Fair where she unveiled a design for a flashlight that uses a person's own bodyheat to create light. Basically, the flashlight is a series if LED bulbs that rely on the thermoelectric effect to generate electricity when held. This is done through a series of devices that are known as Peltier tiles, which produce electricity when heated on one side and cooled on the other. The tiles are fixed to the outside of the flashlight while the tube itself is hollow.
