Wow. I was hoping I'd at least like it better than Corpse Bride. I did like the visuals. The black and white look was cool. It made it feel like the movie was set in the 50s or 60s, but that made it feel confusing when it was revealed that it actually took place in modern times, but then even after that's revealed everyone's still using old timey cars and there's no internet or anything. The setting made no sense. I liked the movie best at the beginning when the characters were being introduced and the weird kids were playing off each other. It was like a gothic Charlie Brown or something, and I liked the science teacher too. But once the plot kicked in it lost me. Maybe I would've liked the story more as a kid when I was more into freaky morbid stuff. It felt too early in the movie to make me feel all sad and twisted inside. I also have trouble personally imagining loving a dog that much. Cont.

Editing … Once the monsters were all over the town I was done. I don't understand what I'm supposed to get out of parts in movies like that. So they're running amok, destroying things, and causing mayhem. So what? What's supposed to be enjoyable about that? There's hardly any humor. The ways the monsters are defeated is underwhelming. I don't care about anyone because the movie spent way more time on the protagonist trying to hide his dog than on giving the characters personality. I don't like all the hijinks with him trying to hide the dog. That stuff gets old fast for me. Reminded me of ET, which I didn't like. If this is modern times, why do the kids care so much about a dumb science fair? They should be playing video games! And the dog didn't get angsty about being undead until right when the parents found him. But then apparently at the end he's not angsty about being undead at all. Okay. Not well thought out in the least. At least the windmill scene was kind of exciting, and I did like the wide eyed girl with the cat, and I liked the beginning.

Editing … They gave that girl the problem of having to sing that song for her dad's celebration or whatever. The movie didn't even need that. It didn't matter. Nothing the mayor did mattered. His celebration and the climax of the movie taking place on it didn't matter. The science fair didn't matter. The main character's dad wanting him to get into a sport didn't matter. NOTHING MATTERED!
