I really wish digital console stores would discount old titles. If you want to pick up any games on the legacy consoles like PS3, PSP, or PS Vita they never get discounted anymore. I feel like there should just be a set discount for all that content now that they aren't really supporting those platforms. Especially since the digital store is the easiest way to get those titles now other than searching resale markets. I don't get it... seems like easy money to me. I'd really like to get some more games for my Vita but the resale market is getting ridiculous at this point and the PS store has everything at MSRP even though it came out years ago. They could at least open it up so Developer's have more freedom to run sales or discounts on their own games through the platform.

Editing … yeah it's ironic that enjoying obsolete stuff becomes more pricey than when it was still alive. Noticing this on games that were on both Vita and Switch. Switch game goes on sale to dirt cheap meanwhile Vita version be like 29.99 loool. But I've pretty much given up on Vita so that's one problem solved.

Editing … For years folks like Cliffy B kept cheerleading for digital distribution saying stuff like "Just let us smother the second hand market with a pillow and you will TOTALLY benefit!" Well digital distribution is bigger than ever before on console and the absolute norm on PC, and.... this does not bode well.

Editing … I remember Cliff would say "Without a second hand market, consoles will get all those groovy Steam sales everybody gets horny for these days!" LOL. While I think console and Steam sales have more or less reached parity in the last couple years, that's mostly because Steam sales have gotten a lot worse, and keep in mind that for the best deals you need to be subscribed to Playstation Plus and the like.

Editing … But the real issue is indeed how much stuff stays at or near MSRP forever. Good example: Physical copy of Dark Souls 3 Fire Fades Edition for PS4 on Amazon is $30 (Canadian prices). What does it cost on the Playstation Store? ONE HUNDRED AND TEN FUCKING DOLLARS!!! Steam is a bit cheaper at $85, for a game that came out 4 goddamn years ago.

Editing … And there are lots of digital-only goods, particularly season passes which simply never fall in price. Just to stick with Dark Souls III, the season pass on the Playstation Store is more expensive ($33.50) than buying the entire game, DLC and all off of Amazon. It's pretty clear that should physical games go away altogether, publishers will take every opportunity to overcharge us.

Editing … It's because of this and microtransactions and all the new forms of avarice that have taken place over the last generation that I feel absolutely no shame about taking whatever measures I can to save money short of piracy (and that's more because I can't be bothered rather than any ethical qualms). Borrowing, trading, Steam refunds etc. I used to be really enthusiastic about buying a game at launch to support developers I like, but fuck that noise these days. I still try to support indie developers who put out good stuff though. Like I was late to the party with Subnautica, but when Below Zero leaves early access you'd better believe I'm snatching that shit up day 1!

Editing … Digital only means higher prices for everything because people cannot buy used. Be honest, most of us bought the majority of our games used back in the day so they never earned a penny after the original sale. With no used sales around the prices will remain high. Forever. They know full price is our only option. I've been against it from the start but gaming is so shit now I just don't care anymore. I was smart enough to download and store every single game ever made up to the PS2.

Editing … Agreed on almost everything said here. I do think that if you gave the developers and publishers the power to discount their own games digitally they would. Especially smaller studios that need that cash flow.
