Okay, I've been addicted to this album recently and I need to fess up how much I fucking love it. The mix of the soul and flavorful pop is a catchy enough recipe, but Jepsen's charming innocence is what pushes this album over for me. It's really refreshing to divulge into such a simple minded and untainted album like this. So often, the music I listen to is challenging sonicly and/or lyrically, so it's nice to visit Emotion as a breath of fresh air. But this album wouldn't be as listenable if the charm wasn't lifted up by the foundation of its instrumentation. It's complex and has a lot of left hooks that make relistening a joy. Carly Bae Jepson was always a passable pop idol with little to make her distinct her from the many like her, but with this album she manages to takes this dead horse of a formula and pluck out its strong suits and blend it with an intricacy that allows one to appreciate the simpler side of music.

This is the only video game I still play consistently. There is no situation or mood I could be in when I would decline a bout in Melee. My Peach is a god.

Up until this point, there hasn't been an ambient album that has left any sort of impact on me. I had listened to Stars of the Lid and Brian Eno's Ambient series and they were all good... for helping me focus on homework. I'd only use ambient music as sort of a snack food that I would only use to keep my ears occupied while I did something else. Pop is the first display of an ambient album with enough texture and variation to keep me continually invested in it.
This feels like the soundtrack to the Garden of Eden. It provokes the same sort of emotion you get from going for a nice hike up to a mountain lake, lying back on a rock, and taking the time to appreciate the silence and serenity. It's a beautiful feeling that I don't experience much due to my urban lifestyle. I can practically smell the pine radiating from the album art.
