Editing … Well we do call them "Kidney bonen" here aswell, but "kidney" is an appropriated word. It means nothing in the Dutch language so, at best, if you understand English, they will be good for your kidneys and at worst if you don't understand English they will do nothing for the kidneys.

I've started buying my mackerel whole now from the fishmonger. I know it's just pure 100% mackerel and none of the sneaky stuff supermarkets will put in the packages.

They're really easy to gut, far easier than I thought. Filleting them isn't quite as easy though, I made a bit of a mess first time around. But I'll get better next time and waste less fish.

Oh, and I got 3 whole mackerel for £5. Bargain.

Me and Iz were having so much fun doing the wriggly worm dance that the mrs got out of bed and left us to it for an hour.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, having kids in your 20s is not all it's cracked up to be. Sure, your body handles it better when young, and you do love your kids exactly as much. But nothing can beat the emotional feelings you get in your 40s doing it. You appreciate every little thing, kind of like a grandparent, since I am grandparent age I suppose.

People in their 20s or 30s or without children reading this like "you can't possibly love your child more based on age". Oh I know you can, it's an experience thing. As you mature you grow emotionally. Did you ever think your grandma was the kindest person ever? It's because she loved you more than ever. She beat her children round the block though!

I guess that when our species was knocking around in the early days our life expectancy certainly wan't 80, it was more like 40 or 50 max. So maybe we just learned to mature later in life now since our life got expanded with better living? I dunno. Maybe all mammals are the same? Elephants seem to have an elder matriach from what I hear.

But I do know that having kids in your 20s isn't anywhere near as good as having a kid at 40. I love them both equally, but one is so much more rewarding to bring up than the other. I wouldn't rush to have kids guys if you haven't already. Don't worry about age so much, 40 is a damn fine time to have a child.

Editing … I think it depends on the person. I also see a lot of jaded older parents but in theory though an older parent should make for a better parent because they have more experience and have a better idea of what is important. Maybe you also appreciate it more then. 40s is really late for a woman though. More dangerous too and a higher chance of birth defects. A lot of women have difficulty trying to conceive by then. Mother nature does not care about your emotional maturity. Only cares about vitality.

Editing … yeah. it's easier for men to take their time, but woman have to deal with the reality check called "the wall". I think people should just grow to emotional maturity faster. Then you have the best of both worlds. Today we stay infantile for far too long anyways. No way in hell did people in the past have the luxury of extended childhood. I know lots of men extending their childhoods and postponing responsibility. I don't think it's a good look. They need a kick in the cunt.

Turns out the book is really good. The first half plays out exactly like the film with just a few minor differences, everything upto the T rex attack. Then it changes a bit, but the film kind of still follows the book in general. It's clear they had to cut it short, the book goes on for a little extra adventure after the film finishes.

I'm glad I finally got around to reading it.
