Editing … play Mega Man X, ignore the rest. I haven't played Earthbound, but I wouldnt play it because I don't play games that require a guide to beat

Editing … Earthbound is really easy, no guide necessary. I would recommend all of those Gries!

Editing … I think you'd enjoy Earthbound/Mother 2 the most out of those. Might want to use some GG codes to smooth things out though. I would also skip FFIV in favour of the GBA remake.

Editing … waait.. I though Earthbound was like a famous example of a game that required a guide? And that's why the US version came in a massive box with the official strategy guide bundled inside because it was unplayable without it? I say this cause I'm wondering about trying the game the same time as gries. So we can play it "together" and have a race. An Earthbound race.

Editing … Oh? I don't remember using guides much when I played it, but I did get sick of it before finishing because it had too much walking around and killing enemies in-between the story and town parts. You'll probably get lost if you don't talk to everyone in every town though, but that's a common thing in old JRPGs.

Editing … "I don't remember using guides much when I played it" I don't know how to interpret this. The fact you used them at all makes it completely ambiguous whether the game is playable without one. I care less if you used guides 100's of times in a game that doesn't need it, than if you used a guide exactly 1 in a game where it was absolutely necessary. (also, you didn't even finish it)

Editing … And I'd have to replay it to refresh my memory so that I can say for sure if you'd need a guide or if it's just nice to have for mechanics explanations and 100%ing it. I'd also have to look at the official strategy guide to see if it's more of an extensive manual or tells you things you couldn't figure out on your own within a reasonable amount of time. Either way I wouldn't not recommend a game that required using a guide once or twice if it's really good besides that.

Editing … Mario RPG amazingly enough I have nothing against, its a pretty cool game except maybe for the button QTEs. If I could change one thing I'd add onscreen prompts to tell you when to press buttons. Since the game doesn't have those it kind of ruins things it and the game kind of sucks as a result I guess? Other than that though it is pretty sweet.

Editing … lol, every now and then someone would ask me where my lists went, but that was a while ago. I thought it was common knowledge by now that I have no lists. Maybe when favslist's list maker supports tablets then I will make lists again.

Editing … @rockshard2 It's playable without one, they only packed in the guide because they thought we were too dumb to beat it without it (the Japanese version didn't include it I believe).
