Editing … And you're against this for exactly what reason? Square's utter fucking awful management and board of directors should be blamed here for wasting millions on another proprietary in-house eninge that is (apparantely) way too hard to program for. Incompetent fools.

Editing … I think he wanted kingdom hearts 3 to have an engine that's tailor-made to it. Something like sonic games and the hedgehog engine. Not really impossible (square has the money), but it looks like they rather just pay epic the 5% royalty.

Editing … "Square has the money", I don't think so because ever since XIII came along they've been actually losing money...alot of money. As for the engine, I don't know exactly how it'll change the game but I think it'll only sacrifice graphical quality for a more fluid experience, not to mention much more practical for developers to work on. This might actually speed up development :D

Editing … I dunno, I just ended up developing a distaste for UE4's predecessor during the previous generation. It definitely had it share of problems that were widespread among the games that used it. Not to mention that the typical UE3 game didn't appeal to me anyway. Despite 99% of cover-based third-person shooters using UE3 (I pulled that number out of my ass, but I'm sure it's accurate), my favorite shooter of all time, #Vanquish, did not. That's gotta count for something. It's nice to see companies use in-house technology that's tailor-made for their games, but it seems Square Enix just isn't able to do it. Luminous was their most recent engine, and was built from the ground up to be used with multiple games (not true for the White Engine/Crystal Tools, which was originally a PS2 engine exclusively for FF13), but they still had to drop it. Anyway, it's gonna be weird seeing the Unreal logo on the box or menu or wherever it is they need to put it.
