A lot of people disliked the pacing in the second half of this game. It was quite repetitive. However, you can easily either rush through the entire second half in 3 hours, which eliminates the issue of it being boring because you can get it over with in a day, or you can stop and do the extra sidequests which will make it non-repetitive.

Considering Square's recent RPG innovations have only being partially successful, this game was a great return to RPG mechanics of old with some really great Anti-Frustration Features like being able to control the encounter rate. Can't wait for the sequel.

Grinding endgame can be annoying though, since you literally enter battle, the enemies automatically die because of your passive ability, rinse and repeat.

Editing … Just because you can rush through it doesn't really make that part of the game better. The only thing that kept me playing past that point was the ability to turn off the encounters, to be honest. If you couldn't do that, I'm sure I would have dropped it for something else. Still like the game as a whole, though.
